When Meichi Peng was a young girl growing up in Taiwan, she noticed that the collar on her grandfather's favorite shirt had become frayed. Every day he wore the shirt, and every day, Meichi's eye focused only on the imperfection. Unable to endure it any longer, she took matters into her own hands, using the skills she'd learned in school and her mother's old sewing machine to bring the shirt, and her grandfather, triumphantly back into the world of fashion.

With that can-do spirit and passion for design, Meichi's reaction to an unsuccessful shopping trip with her sister years later was perhaps not surprising. "We were looking for handbags that combined traditional technique with beautiful stitching and elegant, modern design," she says. "We couldn't find anything. So I told my sister, 'I'll make the bags for us.' I don't think she ever thought I would, but not long after, my sister had the first Meichi Peng design. Happily, she loved it!" she says.

Today, Meichi Peng handbags are recognized for meticulous design and extraordinary quality. Two distinctive lines are available: the classic 'Shapes' series, and the adventurous 'Colors'collection.

Demonstrating tremendous dedication and attention to detail, each handbag takes between twelve and fifty hours of work apiece. But there's nothing Meichi loves more.

"Even as a young girl mending my grandfather's shirt, I was happiest with sewing tools in hand," she says. "I hope that the joy I feel creating these handbags will be shared by those who use them!"
